in processing, fabrics are usually dried before being padded in the reported experiments the possibilities of omitting this drying step were explored. several approaches, based on either transfer techniques or vacuum impregnation, were studied as means for padding wet fabrics. these experiments included application of resin finishes to wet fabrics. it is demonstrated that transfer systems can be employed to finish wet fabrics. in this process, squeezing against loops reduces the amount of moisture on a fabric. the procedures seem more adaptable to blend fabrics than to all-cotton, but certain variations can be employed with all-cotton fabrics. a cotton interlock knit and a nonwoven rayon were found to be effective loop materials. vacuum padding offers another feasible approach for applying finishes to wet fabrics. durable press fabrics with high levels of smooth dry performance have been prepared starting with fabrics that had been wet with water equivalent to 90 wpu. 9 refs
