Lyocell offers much higher dyeability than conventional cullulosic fibers and requires special dyeing conditions. Interfibrillar crosslinking induced at the earliest possible moment prevents further fibrillation during the dyeing process. Some multifunctional reactive dyes, which have at least two reactive groups, form a covalent bond with two adjacent cellulose molecules. The resulting interfibrillar crosslinking reduces postfibrillation during wet processing. Cibacron LS dyes in exhaust application and Cibacron C dyes in pad application induce this type of crosslinking. Research assessed the degree of crosslinking by testing such fabric properties as tensile strength, elasticity, and crease recovery angle. Data showed no significant differences among monoreactive, bireactive, and trireactive dyes.
