Researchers investigated the effect of chitosan on the dyeing affinity, color difference, and colorfastness of chitosan adhered tussah silk fabric. Direct dyes increased dye affinity significantly. Acid, 1:1 metal comlex, disperse, basic, and reactive dyes increased dye affinity moderately. The metal complex dyes exhibited no effect on dyeing affinity, whereas acid mordant dye decreased dye affinity. The effects of chitosan adhesion on the hue, lightness, chroma, and color difference of the tussah silk fabrics were minimal. However, chitosan adhesion direct dyes. Except for direct dyes, adhering tussah silk fabric with chitosan improved fastness to rubbing, water, laundering, perspiration, and hot pressing. Chitosan adhesion slightly lowered the fastness of acid dye to drycleaning. 9 refs.
