Researchers studied the effect of two series of ethoxylated compounds on C.I. Acid Blue 80 and the dynamics of wool dyeing at low temperature. The compounds were a fatty alcohol with 8, 11, 23 and 60 moles of ethylene oxide and a nonyl phenol with 10, 13, 15, 20, 30 and 40 moles of ethylene oxide. Results indicated that the dye bacame increasingly insoluble with lower concentrations of ethylene oxide. The absorption curves were similar for the blue dye at any concentration of the additive. The rate of dyeing increased at lower concentrations of additive. Above a certain number of moles, the ethoxylated compounds had no apparent effect on the dynamics of the dyeing process below 100 degrees centigrade. 10 refs.
