Experiences in dyeing of fiber blends of lyocell and wool

The dyeing of lyocell and lyocell in blend with wool is described. Lyocell is dyed with direct dyes in short times and at low temperatures (RT, 60, 80℃) with high levelness, in deep shades and with sufficient wet fastness properties. However, a complete penetration of direct dyes across the whole fiber cross section of lyocell fibers can only be acheived after dyeing of lyocell at temperatures of T＞80℃ and in times of t＞30 min. Blends of lyocell and wool fibers can be dyed with mixtures of direct dyes and acid, 2:1 metal complex and reactive dyestuffs satisfactorily regarding levelness, depth of shade, tone-in-tone effects and wet fastness properties without impairment of the fiber quality. Lyocell/wool blends are dyed optimally in 35 min at 95℃ using a one-bath procedure.
