Wool can be dyed with acid, basic, direct and reactive dyes in neutral or slightly acidic conditions. Now a days efforts are made to minimise the consumption of energy during various textile processing since the cost of energy is escalating day by day. One such attempt is bringing down the dyeing temperature. The temperature can be brought down with the use of chemicals either as pretreater or as dyebath additives. The present paper deals with the use of amines as pretreaters for improvng the dye uptake during dyeing with a few reactive dyes. Diethanolamine and triethanolamine have been used as pretreaters. The effect of preteater concentration and the pretreatment temperature over pretreater concentration and the pretreatment temperature over the dye uptake have been evaluated and the results are presented.
