Real Time Analysis and Control of Batch Dyeing Processes.

Researchers developed systems for dyebath monitoring, neural network and fuzzy logic control, color matching algorithms, and closed loop dye and chemical dosing. Spectrophotometric methods monitored the exhaustion of vat dyes, whereas a flow injection analysis system monitored reactive and direct dyeing of cotton, basic dyeing of acrylic, acid dyeing of nylon, and disperse dyeing of manmade fibers. Both methods allowed for real time calculations using a neural network that resulted in accurate control of pH, dyebath concentrations, and the fabric sorption of each dye during dye and chemical dosing.
