The PCMs (Personal Computer Monitoring System) from Barco automation, Belgium, is based on a client-server concept with a Windows NT server and a network of Windows-based clients (95 or MT). The most important real-time analysis tool is the Mill, a colour-coded layout of the production floor showing all the machines which are colour-coded to indicate the machine status or alarm condition. The PCMS also comes with an electronic planboard, similar to the manual planboard on the wall, which enables the planner to assign production orders to the available machines.
