Research on dyeing woven cotton fabric used hydroxyethylsulfone dyes and a tetrafunctional crosslinking agent to achieve covalent fixation. The tetrafunctional crosslinking agent was N,N'-bis(dichloro-s-triazinyl) 4,4'-diaminostilbene 2,2'-disodiodisulfonate (T-DAS), which contained two highly reactive dichloro-s-triazine residues and two water solubilizing groups. T-DAS has a high substantivity for cotton because of its linear structure and high degree of covalent fixation. The dye was a hydrolyzed Remazol Black B (HBB), which had very low uptake and no covalent fixation because of an absence of reactive groups. Simultaneous application of T-DAS and HBB in a long liquor dyeing process gave moderately high dye uptake and fixation. HBB fixation at 2 percent omf required T-DAS at 4 percent omf and 50 grams per liter of sodium sulfate at 25 degrees centigrade. 11 refs.
