Anthraquinone blue disperse dyes containing a built-in stabiliser

This paper describes the synthesis and properties of anthraquinone disperse blue dyes in which a benzophenone, benzotriazole or hindered amine stabilizer has been incorporated into a commerical (protype) dye structure. Although the lightfastness of the dyes containing a 'built-in' stabilizer generally possessed better sublimation fastness than the prototype. In addition, the hindered amine stabilizer residue employed was more effective than the two other types of stabilizers when irradiations were conducted in solution, but less so when the corresponding dyes were evaluated on PET fabric. The structure of each new dye was confirmed by 1H-NMR and mass spectrometric analyses.
