Color Discrimination Results from a CRT Device: Influence of Luminance

A study investigating the weighting function for lightness adopted by the CIE94 color difference model calculated new color discrimination ellipsoids from two normal observers using a CRT device and five luminance values at each of the five centers recommended by the CIE in 1978. Although some of the experimental conditions did not fit those recommended by the CIE model, results supported the weighting function for lightness. The ellipsoids confirmed Weber's law. When the luminance of each reference stimulus increased toward the one of the surround, a reduction occurred in the area of the x.y chromaticity ellipses. 32 refs.
