Knit and woven cotton fabrics were dyed or printed with reactive dyes based on vinyl sulfone. The fabrics were then printed by discharge printing. The process sequence, machinery, and chemicals were varied in a series of four experiments. The process was performed with and without steaming/curing. Samples were tested for rubfastness. Rubfastness in steamed /cured samples was superior. The results of these experiments were generally satisfactory, and marketable fabrics were produced. However, the performance of some of the reactive dyes was variable.
