Machine-washable wool, especially apparel, is an important product that can complete with manmade fiber products. The international Wool Secretariat has developed the Woolmark label to identify machine-washable wool. Chlorine and prepolymer's are used to finish wool for antifelting properties In continuous chlorination, both free, dissolved chlorine and organic chorine can be used. In dyeing, only the organic chlorine assures stable dyeings. Optimal polymers include a polyester derivative that achieve excellent hand and a polyquarternary derivative that contributes to stable dyeings. 9 refs.
