The SDF (silk dyeing flow) atmospheric overflow dyeing machine from mezzera is discussed. The machine was developed for dyeing 100 percent silk and blends of silk and natural or manmade fibers. The SDF eliminates the quality problems associated with conventional rope dyeing machines, including roughened places, hairy fabric surfaces, longitudinal stretch, rope creases, and lean hand. The machine transports the fabric rope solely by the falling liquor, thus avoiding mechanical roughening of the fabric surface. The SDF is available in versions for treating one, two, and three fabric ropes.
