Becuase tasar silk differs from mulberry silk in terms of denier, filament length, texture, and color, different dyeing and printing standards are required. Tasar requires a different degumming process and desizing if the fabric is to be printed. Bleaching can be carried out effectively with hydrogen peroxide at a mild alkaline pH, and a whitening agent may be added to the reduction bath. Acid, metal-complex, and reactive dyes can be used with tasar, but acid dyes provide the best color range. Printing tasar prior to bleaching is desirable in some markets because this achieves a raw look. Screen printing is considered the most effective printing process. Finishing with polyethylene emulsion will improve tasar's hand. 2 refs.
