Carriers, oligomer controllants, and finishing chemicals for use on polyester fibers are discussed. Carriers are special chemicals that promote the uptake of disperse dyes. The compounds commonly used in polyester dyeings are phenolics, chlorinated aromatics, aromatic hydrocarbons, ethers, and aromatic esters. Alkali metal salts will make polyester cationic dyeable. the best solution for controlling oligomers is treatment prior to dyeing in an alkaline, high temperature bath, with or without a carrier. The chemicals used for several polyester operations. including optical whitening, antipilling finishing, durable press treatment, non-slip finishes, anti-picking finishes, and anti-snagging finishes, are also described.
