Ciba Specialty Chemicals Incorporated developed a new range of metal-free acid dyes for wool and wool/nylon blends. Neolan A dyes give bright colors and Neolan P dyes give more muted colors to wool pieces and hanks. The Neolan A range includes five compatible trichromatic dyes and three supplementary dyes. Albegal NA and Glauber's salt leveling agents facilitate exhaust dyeing with Neolan A dyes. The wool dyeing procedure involves two steps and the blend procedure involves three steps. Dyeing procedures for wool blends involve the use of Erional RF blocking agent to retard nylon fiber dye uptake. Buffers maintain dyebath pH at 5.5.
