Thermomigration in polyeser fabrics and its blends dyed with disperse dyes is a problem during finishing processes that use heat. The causes of thermomigration are complex and can include many processing parameters, such as temperature, blend ratio, and auxiliaries. A variety of tests can be used to predict the probability of thermomigration. For example, the quantity of unfixed dye can be estimated by exposing a sample of fabric on filter paper to solvent. Optimizing processing conditions controls thermomigration. The appropriate dye and finish, the optimal time and temperature for curing and/or fixation, and the use of auxiliaries and aftertreatments are important to solving the problem. 4 refs.
