Major end product applications for dyed nylon, such as automotive fabrics and carpets, require high stability to photochemical degradation. Most stabilizers that are incorporated into the structure of the fiber perform well only with deep shades of dye. However, Ciba Geigy's Cibatex 4458, a copper complex that is applied during dyeing, confers significantly better photostability to nylon, even with medium and light dyeings. The effect can be increased by adding ultraviolet absorbers at the same time. 32 refs.
