A method to restrict the permanent setting of wool fiber during dyeing was developed. Impairment of physical properties was significantly reduced. The method involved the addition of an oxidizing agent, such as potassium bromate or hydrogen peroxide, during dyeing. These agents also restricted increases in hygral expansion that result from piece dyeing. When used in the presence of dyes, however, oxidants can cause differences in the color of the dyed wool. 16 refs.
