ZED Instruments has introduced a new interface to its filmless laser engraving system for Postscript images generated on the Apple Mac. Data are transferred via Ethernet to the ZEDCO image composition system interface, where the image can be displayed and changed prior to engraving. Users require a standard Mac II platform with 8 Mbyte RAM and 160 Mbyte hard disk. Based on its open systems architecture. ZED has established many direct digital interfaces to machine text and image compositions systems. Many of these options are bidirectional and accept most standard and many special image formats. The laser engraver is used in a range of applications that includes the production of flexographic plates and cylinders, anilox inking rolls, and rotary screens.
