Since reactive dyestuffs do not become fully fixed in fibers. they are found in effluent in an unfixed, usually hydrolyzed state. problems caused by this effluent and technical methods to economically minimize reactive dye pollution are discussed. Typical quantities of hydrolysates in effluent are presented. German regulations to control effluent pollution are reviewed. Methods to remove dyestuffs from effluent, including modifications of the dyeing process, cleaning measures, and decolorization methods, are described. 29 refs.
