The application of a process control system to continuous finishing machines is described. The machines are divided into functional zones; control parameters are defined and the number of controllers are determined for each zone. A multiplexer links the controllers and the computer. Minimum software capability includes parameter definition, a process library, and an online status screen. Among the many standard control functions are temperature, pressure, flow of chemicals and water, pH, conductivity, density, speed, and the consumption of power and raw materials. Return on investment is calculated based on the operation of a one-stage continuous bleaching range.
