Textile finishing preparation is a series of cleaning operations to prepare the textile fibers for subsequent dyeing, printing, and finishing processes. Preparatory operations include desizing, scour boiling, alkalizing/mercerizing, and bleaching. The newest preparatory finishng processes and commercial products are reviewed. The development of chemicals to reduce environmental damage are discussed. The desizing, color-boiling, and bleaching of raw cotton are performed in order to illustrate the effects of modem preparatory processes and machines on textile materials.
