The finsihing of elastic warp knit fabrics depends on the type of warp knit machine (tricot, raschel) on which they were produced. Storage prior to finishing can lead to many problems, such as creasing, moire effects, yellowing, and staining. If storage is necessary, the fabric is pre-washed, stored horizontally on tubes, and packaged chemically inert black film. Finishing can include relaxation, heat-setting, bleaching, dyeing, drying, resin finishing, and decating. Relaxation is generally performed on all warp knit fabrics; the fabric relaxes to slightly larger than the requisite finished fabric dimensions. Heat setting on a tenter is performed on elastic fabrics produced on tricot machines because the selvages have a tendency to curl.
