A method for studying parameters used to optimize the washoff cycle of fiber reactive dyes was established. The system helps visualize and measure the process, and monitors, compares, and optimizes such variables as temperature, pH, electrolysic concentration. Wetfastness problems were traced to the inefficient removal of unfixed hydrolyzed dye. Wetfastness properties were optimized by optimizing the rinsing and washing parameters. The experiments showed that using less water, energy, and time, which reduces costs, can be achieved without lowering quality. Further savings may be found through reduced wastewater volume and improved wetfastness. 3 refs.
