Macbeth's new spectrophotometer, the Eagle-Eye, uses pulsed xenon light to measure color samples from 20 feet away. The Eagle-Eye quickly measures the color so that ambient light considerations are eliminated while dark colors are adequately illuminated. Other advantages of the Eagle-Eye include the large area of measurement examined and the angle of illumination, which corrects the deviant measures taken from varying pile heights. Color formulation software, in addition to color measurement technology, can be improved if a database is prepared to limit the light and dark variations that occur in hue calculations. For the most accurate color measurement, the carpet sample should be presented to the sensor in the same condition as it was viewed.
