ITMA 1991 -- DYEING AND FINISHING MACHINERY DEVELOPMENTS

New machinery and machine designs in the dyeing and finishing sectors were exhibited at ITMA 1991. In the chemical pretreatment area, a number of novel wet pick-up applicators were shown. In yarn dyeing, the major interests were in compact, modular, low liquor machines and the use of robots for package loading and unloading. In fabric dyeing, some advances were made in the design of jigs that allow for a lower liquor ratio and a higher processing speed. A waterless dyeing process for polyester was demonstrated by Ciba Geigy. Automated laboratory dispensing systems and automated dye kitchens were also prevalent. Printing machines featured the use of CAD or CAD/CAM systems. Progress in the automation of tenters continued. A current interest in surface finishing was indicated by the many exhibitors in this machine sector.
