Ciba Forecast a Continuing Demand for Pastel Shades.

Ciba Specialty Chemicals' new Colors division combines most of the business of the former textile dyes and pigments divisions. A new fabric processing and finishing group within the Consumer Care division now houses the dyeing and printing auxiliaries business. The Colors division focuses on the textile, ink, paint, and plastics industries. Shifting color fashions to pastel caused demand for wool dyes to fall 30 percent in 1998. Pastel colors provide lower profit margins for dye manufacturers. Ciba expects this preference for pastels to continue for at least two more seasons. The textiles business unit of the Colors division focuses on cellulosic, polyester, wool, and nylon fibers. Ciba Colors has manufacturing facilities in eight countries, including Mexico, India, Germany, the United States, and the People's Republic of China.
