The European Union Council directive on integrated pollution prevention and control requires textile dyeing companies to determine the best available techniques for environmental protection. An overview of the batch and pad dyeing processes in terms of preventive environmental protection concludes that the latest generation of technologies adequately minimizes the amount of resources consumed and the amount and hazard of waste and emissions generated. Modern pad dyeing processes that employ pad troughs with volumes of 20-35 liters improve preventive environmental protection compared with previous pad steam and 50 liter pad trough systems. 5 refs.
