Research on pad-batch dyeing of cellulosic fibers with monochlorotriazinyl reactive dyes focused on reaction time variations to establish the minimum dwell time that results in the best fixation. Pad-batch dyeing involves padding with an alkaline solution of dye, dye fixation at ambient temperature, and washing. Reaction time is the period in which fixation is achieved and depend on fixation rate. Fixation curves that plot fixation efficiency against reaction time calculate the reaction time and fixation rate. Experiments used Reactive Red 45, Reactive Violet 2, Reactive Yellow 3, and Reactive Orange 3 at a range of dye concentrations and reaction times. Reaction time depended on the concentration of the padding liquor and the nature of the dye, but it did not exceed 24 hours. Dwell time decreased slightly with a decrease in the concentration of the padding liquor, but even at 10 grams per liter the reaction time did not decrease under 10 hours. 6 refs.
