Researchers studied the colorfastness of woolen fabric that was treated with low temperature air plasma and dyed with an acid dye. The plasma treated woolen fabric exposed to carbon arc light irradiation exhibited less color fading at the initial stage than that of an untreated woolen fabric. The oxidized substrate resulting from the plasma treatment might inhibit the photoreduction reaction of the dye. The plasma treated woolen fabric was less washfast than the untreated fabric. This might be attributable to an enhancement of dye diffusion in the wool substrate by relaxation of the intercellular material resulting from plasma treatment 7 refs.
