Researchers developed environmentally friendly dyeing processes for dyeing polyester/cotton blend fabrics with disperse/reactive and disperse/vat dyes. Process modifications and the substitution of environmentally friendly chemicals significantly reduced the biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) and chemical oxygen demand (COD) in dyehouse effluent. For disperse/reactive dyes, the processes reduced BOD by up to 7.56 percent and COD by up to 12.82 percent. The Eco-Process II process reuses low load effluents to achieve up to 85 percent savings in water consumption. 10 refs.
