Technological Advances in Textile Wet Processing.

This overview of recent technological advances in textile wet processing discusses pretreatments, dyeing, printing, finishing, pollution, and the adaptability of technological advances to Indian conditions. New pretreatment processes include single-stage scouring and bleaching processes; a redox system for bleaching cotton and blended fabrics; permanganate bleaching for cotton, polyester, and cotton/polyester blends; and plasma technology. New dyeing processes include supercritical fluid dyeing with carbon dioxide for polyester fabrics. New printing processes include discharge printing without steaming and printing using enzyme based chemicals. New finishing processes include biofinishing for cellulosic fabrics. New pollution control technology includes wastewater neutralization with flue gas. 10 refs.
