A study used spectrophotometry and Klotz's method to study the binding of disperse dyes with different chemical structures (C.I. Disperse Red 118, C.I. Disperse Violet 26, and C.I. Disperse Yellow 42) to anionic surfactant treated polyester fibers in the presence of a carrier. Each mole of surfactant bound more than 1 mole of dye, which indicated the dependence of aggregate formation on molecular weight and dye concentration. Results indicated that the proportions of dispersant, carriers, and other dyeing asistants should not change from one batch to another and from one shade to another. Changes in the proportion increased the chance of uneven dyeing due to aggregate formation between the dye and the dyeing assistents. 11 refs.
