The use of microbead agitator mills for the micronizing and dispersion of paints, printing inks, and dyes, as well as other wet grinding applications, requires the proper selection of grinding media. The correct medium increases milling production, reduces power consumption, limits mill wear, and lowers grinding media consumption. A corrective measure that increases system efficiency by 1 percent can increase total grinding efficiency by 50 percent. An overview of the factors affecting grinding media quality addresses sphericity, size, surface texture, elastcity, resistance to compression, hardness, density, and cost.
