Methods of reducing AOX compounds from the wastewater generated from the bleaching of cotton with chlorine-containing bleaching agents are discussed. The formation of AOXs during the bleaching process and the identification of the fractions of natural cotton companion substances that are decisive in the formation of AOX compounds are investigated. 7 refs.
