Process controls for pretreatment, dyeing, printing, and finishing of polyester fabrics are discussed. For each fabric treatment, proper production parameters and the selection of chemicals and auxiliaries are stressed. Specifications for suitable processing water are outlined. For polyester pretreatment, procedures for sizing/desizing, scouring, and heat-setting are described. For dyeing, the proper choice and use of leveling agents, dispersing agents, and carriers are discussed. For printing, the choice of thickener is stressed. The discussion of polyester finishing considers finishing of microfilaments, measures to prevent thermomigration, choice of finishing chemicals, aftertreatments, and the selection of proper curing and/or thermofixation conditions. 5 refs.
