Energy Saving -- By Padding Mangle.

Padding mangles impregnate fabrics with processing solutions and squeezes excess amounts of processing liquid from the fabrics. Removing excess liquids from fabric is an energy consuming process that is greatly influenced by the mangle efficiency. The hardness of the rubber rolls and the uniformity of the pressure applied on the rubber rolls influences mangle efficiency. Other key mangle parameters include speed, nip pressure, and the temperature of the system. Researchers determined how the mangle expression percentages varied with differing mangle speeds and nip pressures. Results showed that the optimal mangle speeds and pressure were 10-11 meters per minute at 2.0-2.5 kilograms per square centimeter for an average value of fabric expression of 70 percent. A mathematical equation calculated the mangle expression percentage of cotton fabric at any pressure and speed. 4 refs.
