In recent years quality has become an important concept in manufacturing industry, including the textile industry. However in the face of increased competition and falling demand, price, rapid delivery and service have become more important. It is now desirable to produce quality without increasing production costs. One way of ensuring quality in a textile finishing firm is to have a well-equipped laboratory. The equipment in a dyeing laboratory is designed to ensure the efficiency and reproducibility of the production processes. Such equipment includes instruments for analysing the physical and chemical parameters which affect quality, and machines to reproduce production processes in the laboratory. The man hours required for testing etc are kept to a minimum by automation. Although the equipment requires initial investment the overall effect of its use is a reduction in production costs.
