Is High Temperature Light Fading Influenced by Photochemical Functions through Fiber Parameters?

A study investigated the influence of various fiber properties on the high temperature light fading of polyester fibers after dyeing and evaluated the fiber protection provided by ultraviolet (UV) absorbers. Tests for metamerism and high temperature indicated that the type of lighting often used in showrooms and on sales floors can cause changes in the shade of dyed polyester fibers. Results indicated that UV absorbers should be used selectively and that dyes should be photochemically stable. The most effective UV absorbers for reducing high temperature light fading include benzotriazole, benzotriazine, and benzophone. High temperature light fading behavior correlated with the diffusion coefficient of the tested fabrics.
