The dyeing of polyester/wool blend fabrics requires equilibrium exhaustion. Dyeing via a two bath method with the polyester dyeing occurring in the first bath achieves better shade partitioning than a one bath method. Because wool fiber takes up disperse dyes very rapidly at lower temperatures, dyeing should be initiated at higher than conventional temperatures of approximately 80 degrees centigrade. Although the use of a carrier increased the rate of exhaustion onto the polyester, it also reduced the equilibrium exhaustion. Draining and rinsing after the polyester bath to remove excess carrier improved results. The need to dye wool fibers in deep shades at the boiling point necessitates the dyeing of polyester at 120 degrees centigrade. 5 refs.
