Bayer Aktiengesellschaft's patented process for coloring plastic polyurethane materials uses coloring agents that are suitable for incorporation in the material via the formation of covalent bonds. Suitable coloring agents include of covalent bonds. Suitable coloring agents include derivatives from the reaction of 1,4-dihydroxyanthraquinone or 1,4-diaminoanthraquinone with hydroxylalkylamines or from reactions with compounds that contain identical alkylene groups. The coloring agent is added, during or before the formation of the polyurethane, to the polyol constituent, polyisocyante constituent, or the reaction mixture. Colored polyurethanes have applications in the manufacture of molded structures, plastic sheets, fibers, foams, lacquers, and coatings.
