Reductive cleaning aftertreatment removes oligomers from polyester fibers to improve subsequent spinning, winding, and twisting. Alkaline aftertreatment reduces oligomer build-up, as do limited dyeing times, carriers, increased dosing of dispersant, hot washing, and washing of dyeing machinery. reductive baths can contain sodium hydroxide and/or any of the following reducing agents: sodium hydrosulfite, thiourea oxide, hydroxy acetone, glucose derivatives, sodium borohydride, sodium bisulfite, polysufides, thioglycolic acid, and hydroxy methane sulfonic acid. Agents added during alkaline reduction should be lo foaming, stable to alkali, and biologically degradable and should prevent redeposition of oligomers without affecting dyeing shade or tone. 1 ref.
