Factors affecting dye migration during drying include the type of fiber and dye, liquor pick-up, drying speed, and pad liquor additives. Additives that increase the substantivity and agglomeration of dyes exert a migration-inhibiting effect. Dye migration and the migration-inhibiting effect of these additives are tested using the sandwich, glass plate, bottle, and other methods. The improved sandwich test was found to have the best reproducibility, however, the margin of error was very high. Therefore, no standardized test method is proposed. 23 refs.
