Dyeability and colorfastness were compared in ramie, flax, and cotton yarns dyes with direct dyes. When dyed in a common dyebath, shade depended on the dye. There was consistently less difference between ramie and flax than between ramie and cotton. Even when ramie had a lower dye content than either flax or cotton, the relative depth of shade was higher. The colors produced on cotton were consistently brighter than those on ramie or flax. Little difference in colorfastness to laundering was seen among the three fibers. 13 refs.
