Processing of short staple cotton has been challenging in the are of peeling or lint buildup created by frictional agitation as well as low liquor ratio and excessive cylinder speeds. Diligent efforts and machinery design changes have greatly improved the procedural and technical aspects of garment dyeing. Items for review are presented for those considering changes and modernization of existing or future dyeing and finishing capabilities. Topics covered include low liquor ratio capability, programmable variable speed drive, recirculation to include filtration, divided/compartmentalized cylinders, external heat exchange, and microprocessors with prompting.
