There are two methods for producing simulated yarn dyed denims. One method, based on a fabric treatment, yields a chemically modified cotton which, after being dyed, has the appearance of a denim fabric. This material is termed a pseudodenim because only the face of the fabric has a denim appearance. The second method is based on a chemical treatment and is applied to warp yarns during slashing. a removable size and a non-removable component are applied which, after being cured, confer a cationic character to the warp yarns. Because of this cationic character, the warp yarns can be selectively dyed while the filling yarns are dye-resistant. Because the warp yarns can be dyed any desired color, this is a true generic denim fabric produced by a new method. 31 refs.
