Fabric preparation, mechanical condition, and dye selction can contribute to cross-shading. Sandoz has developed a method to predict cross-shading tendencies. The model was applied to Sodyesul Liquid dyes to correct poor cross-shading situations and to eliminate the introduction of poor dye combinations to the production floor. The successful introduction of dye combinations requires a rationalization of pad box turbulence, fabric width/pad volume ratio, fabric blend levels, and affinity of individual dyes. The Sandoz Cross-Shading Index (CSI) provides highly reliable information regarding the running properties of a particular formula. Program output produces a Cross-Shading Index over a range of padding temperatures. 6 refs.
