In order to use single-constant Kubelka-Munk theory, developers of textile color matching software must contend with colorants that deviate from theoretical linear behavior by showing a variety of non-linear curves of K/S vs. concentration. This can be done by a piece-wise linear approximation of each curve. Matching algorithms based on this model can successfully treat various curve shapes encountered in commercial practice without requiring the operator to make mathematically sophisticated judgments. 7 refs.
